Phytoextraction and phytomining of metals
The lecture will summarize current knowledge about phytoextraction of metals from soils with focus on accumulator plants applicable for contaminated sites cleaning (phytoremediation) and commercial utilization of extracted metals (phytomining). The lecture will focus both on biologists (e.g. plant species selection, cultivars), chemists (e.g. rhizosphere chemistry) and environmentalists. The lecture will be amended by examples of heavy metal distributions on a tailing in the Freiberg area and phytoextraction / phytomining examples (especially phytomining of germanium and rare earth elements).
